Three Eastern Maine Community College Students Receive $1,000 Scholarships
BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Community College System Board of Trustees recognized AAA Northern New England today at a Board meeting held at Eastern Maine Community College for its long-standing support of the AAA Northern New England Endowed Scholarship Fund. AAA recently donated $25,000 to the Fund, which was created in 1999, bringing the total to $170,000. The Fund supports annual scholarships for community college students enrolled in automotive technology programs.
Joanna Jones, Chair of the MCCS Board of Trustees, said, "AAA's generosity has helped break down one of the major barriers that students face — the need for financial assistance to attain a college degree."
Thomas Kinley, President and CEO of AAA Northern New England, presented this year's scholarships to three students enrolled at Eastern Maine Community College.
Said Kinley, "Supporting Maine Community College students enrolled in automotive programs is our way of making sure students who want to pursue a career in this industry have no obstacles in their way. These three scholarship recipients are well-deserving of this financial support."
The three students presented with the $1,000 scholarships are Alvin Wescott of Ellsworth, William Beyenberg of Stetson, and Clay Randall of Brewer.
The AAA Northern New England Scholarship Endowment Fund rotates annually among the Maine Community Colleges that offer automotive programs.
