SMTC AND AAA NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND TO ANNOUNCE GIFT TO SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Three SMTC students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- Southern Maine Technical College (SMTC) will host a reception on Wednesday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. to acknowledge a $25,000 gift from AAA Northern New England to the AAA Endowed Scholarship Fund, and to present the 2003 AAA Scholarship Awards.
The event will be held at the McKernan Center at SMTC. The students who will receive the awards are Jesse North of Cornish, Teresa George of Sebago Lake, and Jason Accurso of Denmark. All three are students in SMTC's automotive technology program.
Presenting the donation and this year's scholarship awards will be Thomas Kinley, President and CEO of AAA Northern New England. SMTC President James Ortiz will accept the gift on behalf of the college and the Maine Technical College System.
The AAA Northern New England Scholarship Endowment Program funds annual scholarships to students enrolled in an automotive technology program at a Maine Technical College. The Scholarship rotates annually among those colleges that offer automotive programs.
This year's gift is the fifth donation made by AAA to the Fund, for a total of $120,000.
