AUGUSTA, Maine The Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System (MCCS) will hold a regularly-scheduled meeting next Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. The meeting will be held in the E. Perrin Edmunds Conference Center, starting at 10:15 a.m.
At the meeting, trustees are expected to vote on the System's two-year biennial budget requests for fiscal years 2006 and 2007. The budget will then be submitted to the Governor and considered by the Legislature in the 2005 session. Also, as is practice at the first meeting of the academic year, each of the community college presidents will give a fall update to trustees. This fall marks the second full academic year since the former technical colleges were changed to community colleges. While still preliminary, enrollment is expected to be up again this year.
Retail Lumber Dealers Association Creates Scholarships
Gregg Collins, Vice President of S.W. Collins Lumber in Presque Isle will be at the meeting to present one of four new scholarships being awarded this year by the Retail Lumber Dealers Association of Maine. The Association will fund four $1,000 scholarships for students pursuing careers in the construction field, and will be awarded to one student from each of the four community colleges with building construction programs: Central Maine, Eastern Maine, Northern Maine and Southern Maine Community Colleges.
