AUBURN, Maine — Maine Community College System Trustees gathered at Central Maine Community College in Auburn today to recognize AAA Northern New England for its long-standing support of the AAA Northern New England Endowed Scholarship Fund. AAA recently donated $25,000 to the Fund, which was created in 1999, bringing the total to $145,000. The Fund supports annual scholarships for community college students enrolled in automotive technology programs.

Joanna Jones, Chair of the MCCS Board of Trustees, said, "Since 1999, AAA's generosity has assisted students in achieving their education goals in the field of automotive technology. We thank them, and commend them, for their generosity and corporate leadership."

As part of the event, Thomas Kinley, President and CEO of AAA Northern New England, and CMCC President Scott Knapp, presented this year's scholarships to three students enrolled at Central Maine Community College.

Said Kinley, "Supporting community college students who are pursuing careers in the automotive industry is our way of supporting our next generation of workers. These three scholarship recipients are well-deserving of this financial support," he said.

The three students presented with $1,000 scholarships are Zachary Ackerman of Eustis, Colby Gray of Hampden, and James Moore of Gardiner.

The AAA Northern New England Scholarship Endowment Fund rotates annually among the Maine Community Colleges that offer automotive programs.
