Community college trustees authorize five new academic programs

Board also elects new chair and vice chair for 2016-2017

AUGUSTA, ME – The Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System (MCCS) has approved five new program offerings, effective fall 2016:

  • Certificate of Fundamentals in Surveying at Central Maine Community College in Auburn;
  • Advanced Certificate in Police Operations at Central Maine Community College;
  • Advanced Certificate in Education at Central Maine Community College;
  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice at Washington County Community College in Calais; and
  • Associate Degree in Health Sciences at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.

Individuals interested in learning more about any of these programs should contact the admissions office at the respective college.

In other action at its June 22 meeting at Northern Maine Community College, the Board elected officers for the coming year. Jean Ginn Marvin of Scarborough, innkeeper of the Nonamtum Resort in Kennebunkport, will serve as chair. She succeeds Robert Clarke of Fort Fairfield, who has served as Board chair for the past three years. David MacMahon, of Poland, retired president and CEO of Maine Machine Products Company in South Paris, will serve as vice chair.
