Start here, then transfer
Maine's Community Colleges are a great place to start college and then transfer. You can save on your first two years of college, and get lots of support to help you succeed.
In Maine, the community colleges have developed dozens of transfer agreements with four-year colleges and universities including Maine's seven public universities, Husson College, Maine Maritime Academy, St. Joseph's College, Thomas College, Unity College, and others.
Students who are interested in transferring to the University of Maine System can take advantage of several initiatives that are designed to make the process as easy as possible.
- AdvantageU offers MCCS students who complete an associate degree in Liberal Studies guaranteed admission to any University of Maine institution. (Some UMS degree programs may have cumulative grade point average (GPA) requirements and/or program specific criteria for admission and class standing.) - For students interested in transferring credits from a Maine community college to a specific university within the University of Maine System, MaineStreet offers a list of courses for that community college that are typically recognized as equivalent courses, acceptable for transfer.
It's important to note that transfer agreements and course equivalencies are continually being developed and updated, so check with your community college advisor for the most up-to-date information. The links at the top of this page, will take you to transfer information and resources that are available at each college. Remember: every course in a community college program may not transfer to a four-year program, so we encourage you to talk with your advisor to discuss your transfer goals and develop an academic plan that gives you the greatest transfer opportunity.
Transferring credits to a Maine community college
Students who have earned college credits from other regionally accredited colleges may transfer credits prior to beginning their MCCS program of study. Check with your admissions office to find out what information is needed to evaluate the transfer of credit.
